In my non-polish-related life, I work with college students. The other day, one of my students was wearing a beautiful glowing pink nail polish. We got to talking about which polishes we like the best, and she said that there was a mermaid-something-or-other teal one that she liked a lot. A quick Google search revealed that it was Sephora by OPI Mermaid To Order. I told her I might have to get it, since the SOPI polishes are on clearance now, and this one looked pretty neat. But then I found out…I actually already had it from a SOPI collection from QVC that I got for Christmas! Sometimes I don’t even know my own collection. (File that under #polishhoundproblems. Cue violins.)
I decided to give this polish a whirl, considering my student’s positive review. I do like the final effect: a shimmery glowing teal that I think looks pretty good on my pale cool skin tone. However, the formula itself was just okay. It was a little thin, although surprisingly not streaky for such a shimmery, almost metallic polish. It was pretty easy to work with, although I probably could’ve gone with three coats to get full coverage.
What you see below is two coats with Orly Bonder as a base coat, and Seche Vite on top.
Final verdict: not a perfect polish, but I still kinda like it!
Have you tried this polish? What do you think?
I was so happy when A England had their recent sale…and SO SAD when the UK mailing restrictions kept them from sending out the nail polish we polish addicts crave! Luckily in the US, Llarowe stepped in and got the polishes distributed as fast as humanly possible. I can’t say enough good things about both companies at this point – they really did their best to make sure we had our polish fix!
When I got the order, I knew I had ordered both of the Holy Grails (the old version and the revamped version), and I was definitely anticipating them. But because it took so long to finally get to me, I forgot that I had also ordered Beauty Never Fails. And boy am I glad I did! I thought I would immediately do a mani with one of the Holy Grails, but Beauty Never Fails caught my eye. And it didn’t disappoint.
Beauty Never Fails is a “blackened pine base, hypnotically brimming with emerald, gold, olive-green and bronze ultra-fine shimmer,” according to the official description. I’d say that’s spot on. The formula was very manageable, not super-thin but not thick either. (Some of the A Englands I have purchased in the past are a bit thick, including Tristam – still love them, though!) Also, and this is rare for me – it’s a one-coater. I almost always put on two coats no matter what polish I’m using, but because of the excellent coverage, plus the fact that it’s dark and I didn’t want to make a mistake, I kept it to one coat. I topped with Seche Vite, too.
SO pretty in the bottle!
Close-up – look at that shimmer!
Verdict: thumbs up! I can’t wait to try my Holy Grails, but I’m glad I got a chance to try this one first. It’s simply delicious.
If you want A England polishes, due to continuing shipping restrictions, unfortunately it’s a bit dicey to order from the A England website unless you live in the UK. If you’re in the US, you can get A England polishes from Llarowe. (And again, kudos to both of them for their excellent customer service and for overcoming the pretty impossible shipping restrictions! Let’s hope the UK can find a reasonable solution soon!)
